In 1975, famed Chicago ballet dancer Thalia Mara was invited to build a world-class company and school at the then named Jackson Municipal Auditorium. Today, the Thalia Mara Hall is one of the state's premiere performance venues, drawing music, dance, and opera from around the city, the nation, and the world. The performance hall is located in the downtown district, just south of West Street Park.
